About POMSAC

POMSAC (Port Moresby Sub Aqua Club) is an amateur scuba diving club in Papua New Guinea. The club is based at and affiliated with the Royal Papuan Yacht Club (RPYC). It has its own club room on the ground level of the RPYC. The club caters for divers from novices and rusty to expert.

Although POMSAC is principally a diving club, it also provides events for snorkelers. Most weekends throughout the year, POMSAC will typically undertake between one or two trip events such as:

  • Single “dive only” trips lasting about 2 hours, and/or
  • Double “dive only” trips lasting around 4 hours, and/or
  • Combined Dive and Snorkel trips lasting around 4 hours, and/or
  • Snorkel only trips lasting about 4 hours.

POMSAC caters for diving and snorkeling

There are a wide range of diving opportunities within easy reach of the club's base. Port Moresby’s outer reef can be reached in a 10 minute boat ride and Bootless Bay and Idihi Island can be reached within 40 minutes. World class sites at Gabagaba and beyond are just over one hour away. POMSAC members regular dive on wrecks, walls, WWII stuff, reefs, drop offs, and other local attractions such as Moresby's historic bottle dump. The local fish life is spectacular and most weekend’s club members enjoy sighting of rays, reef sharks, turtles, nudibranchs or pelagics.

Snorkel and combined snorkel and dive trips are ideal for families, children, novice and rusty divers. They are made in very safe and shallow locations under careful supervision to destinations such as local island and usually include a beach stop. Trips are open to POMSAC members as well as RPYC Members and guests. POMSAC owns its own “dive purpose” boat

POMSAC proudly owns its own purpose built dive boat which was built and commissioned in late 2009. The boat is built for offshore conditions, can travel up to 30 knots and is very safe. The boat includes two specially built stainless steel ladders for easy access back into the boat. The boat is permanently moored at “A” finger at the the RPYC.
